Daily Panchang

The five calendrical limbs of a day, worked out where you actually are rather than from a national table, together with the nakshatra's quarter and deity, the season, the samvat years, the conventional divisions of the daylight and where the planets sit. This opens on today for New Delhi; change the date or the place and it updates as you go.

How this is calculated

Sun and moon longitudes from the ephemeris give the tithi by twelfths of their separation, the nakshatra by twenty-sevenths of the lunar longitude, and yoga and karana by their standard sums and halves. Sunrise and sunset are computed for the entered coordinates, and the daylight divisions are eighths of that interval placed by the weekday. Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa with nutation correction throughout.

What it cannot tell you

Near a boundary, this and your printed almanac may disagree by hours. That is a difference of convention, not of accuracy. Religious observance follows the mantras and the almanac a family's priests use; a calculation is one input among several.

Questions

Asked about this tool

What does panchang mean?

Five limbs: tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana and the day itself, reckoned from sunrise. A single civil day usually contains more than one of the first four, which is why timings matter and why an almanac gives hours rather than labels.

Do you show Rahu Kaal?

Yes, along with Yamaganda, Gulika Kaal and Abhijit Muhurtha, each derived by dividing the interval from sunrise to sunset into eighths and placing it by the weekday. Which eighth is a convention, not a constant: the order printed here is the one most North Indian almanacs use, and several South Indian systems place Rahu Kaal elsewhere. Check against the reckoning your own locality follows.

Does this say whether the day is good for me?

No, and it is worth being blunt about that. A panchang states what a day contains arithmetically. Whether any of it suits a particular person is read against their own chart, their family's tradition and the purpose at hand, which is a consultation rather than a calculation.

A calculation gives you a starting point. Consultation with Acharya Narinder Vasudeva is where it gets weighed against the site, the plan and the question.
