How this is calculated

The moon's sidereal longitude at your birth moment gives the rashi and nakshatra with its pada and lord. Current positions are then computed for today and shown against the twelve signs.

What it cannot tell you

There is no day-by-day prediction here, deliberately. A transit that affects a chart does so through its relationship to that specific chart, and a generic paragraph written for a twelfth of the population is not astrology. What is given is the position, correctly.

Why is there no daily horoscope?

Because VASTRO® does not publish one. The newspaper column assigns one of twelve paragraphs to everyone born under a sign, which is not a reading of anybody's chart. The practice's stated position is that astrology is approached through systematic interpretation rather than one-size-fits-all predictions, and a daily column is exactly that.

What is a nakshatra worth knowing?

It is the moon's position in twenty-sevenths rather than twelfths, and it carries the gotra and the name-letter tradition in many families. It is also what the dasha system is built on, so the opening period of your life is read from it.
